Govt comes up with OM on transfers

Speaking at a ceremony to distribute appointment letters to the new batch of police recruits at Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) on Friday, Tynsong was unhappy that the police recruits would often approach the local MLAs to get a posting in a convenient place.

Shillong:

Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Home (Police) Prestone Tynsong informed that the government has come up with an office memorandum relating to transfers.

Speaking at a ceremony to distribute appointment letters to the new batch of police recruits at Shillong International Centre for Performing Arts and Culture (SICPAC) on Friday, Tynsong was unhappy that the police recruits would often approach the local MLAs to get a posting in a convenient place.

He said at the gathering of new police recruits, “Please do not do that. I am warning you. Otherwise please resign. Recently, we came up with the office memorandum relating to transfers, be it seniors up to the lowest level. Wherever the posting is, be happy, after three years again, you will be posted somewhere else.”

Meanwhile, speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma said that the government will ensure that there are minimum postings in different districts as far as the police force is concerned.

He said that there is no rule specifically to get a firm rationalisation but assured that the government is taking steps in that direction.

“That is the reason why in the last few weeks and months, we have come out with a few OMs which are now requiring certain postings to be done in certain parts of the state where the minimum periods say about three years in certain regions will be required,” he said.

He said that there will be challenges as the government may not come out with a perfect system as there are many factors that are impacting the postings and transfers but assured that it will be systematic.

On the other hand, speaking on crime against women, he said it was not new and steps would be taken wherein women police force will be there.

“We are also moving fast in ensuring that proper charge sheets are filed at the earliest. Strict steps and measures are being taken. We need law and order and need strict penalties in the form of imprisonment. As a society also we need to work to ensure that there is counselling at the general level,” Sangma said.
