SHILLONG:
The government has constituted an advisory board as empowered by the NDPS Act to review the detention of drug peddlers, and engaging all stakeholders to address the issue of drugs in the state, Social Welfare Minister Paul Lyngdoh informed on October 17.
Briefing media persons after meeting community leaders to address the issue of drug trafficking, Lyngdoh informed that apart from the Advisory Board, the Dorbar Shnongs will be engaged to tackle the menace of drugs.
“We are serious about coming up with new rules to make them more stringent. These rules will ofcouse have to go to the cabinet before they are approved,” he said.
He informed that the government has major plans to tackle the problem inflicting West Shillong at large, which is why the department is engaging with all stakeholders, including religious. leaders and community leaders.
