SHILLONG:
The Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has received the thumbs up for its governance in the last four years from Governor Satya Pal Malik who was also effusive in his praise for Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
“The basic quality of the man is that he resolves crises. He does not create crisis. He is very amiable. People can reach him. He listens and he does the needful. So I am very satisfied with his functioning,” Malik told journalists during an interaction recently.
On the boundary issue, the Governor expressed confidence that Meghalaya and Assam will be able resolve the long-pending issue amicably.
He also observed that the two chief ministers – Conrad K Sangma and Himanta Biswa Sarma – have a good chemistry, as they work together in resolving the border issue.
“It is a very good development that the two states settle their (dispute) together. Both the chief ministers have got very good chemistry and I am sure rest of it will also be solved,” Malik said.
On March 29, Meghalaya and Assam had signed the Memorandum of Understanding for resolving 6 of the 12 areas of difference, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who termed the occasion as ‘historic’.
The second phase of border talks for resolving the remaining six areas of difference is likely to take place on June-July.
