HC asks state to spend more on roads, highways

The court’s observation came while hearing a petition for the construction of a road between Chiminmingre and Kakwa Duragre.

SHILLONG:

The High Court of Meghalaya, on February 10, said that since the Centre is funding key and strategic roads the state government should spend more on state’s roads and highways.

The court’s observation came while hearing a petition for the construction of a road between Chiminmingre and Kakwa Duragre.

On behalf of the state, a letter dated February 8, 2023 issued by the Public Works Department (PWD) to the advocate representing the State in the matter has been placed which lists upcoming projects for Meghalaya to be funded by the Union and implemented by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) or the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).

The projects are Shillong–Western bypass (38 km) at the cost of Rs 2205 crore for which the DPR is being prepared, Dainadubi-Darugre-Williamnagar (80 km) at the cost of Rs 4350 crore and Mawlyngkhung Mawrynkneng (Shillong
