HNLC wants Cheristerfield probe report made public

SHILLONG:

The banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has demanded that the state government make public the report of inquiry into the death of a former leader of the outfit, Cheristerfield Thangkhiew, who was allegedly gunned down by police on August 13, last year.

The demand was made through its representative, the president of the Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF), Sadon K Blah on Tuesday.

“The HNLC would like to make it clear that the state government must make public the findings of the Justice T Vaiphei inquiry committee regarding the assassination of Cheristerfield Thangkhiew,” Blah told reporters.

The NGO leader said he does not see any reason why the government should delay in making public the findings of the committee.

“The report will be maximum 50 pages and any class XII student will be able to finish reading that in two days,” he said.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had recently said that the government is still examining the report.

“We have received the report and we are examining it. Obviously it is a very lengthy report like all the reports,” he had said while assuring that “at an appropriate time we will be informing you about the outcome of the report.”
