Nongpoh:
The Hynniewtrep National Youth Front (HNYF) on Friday submitted a memorandum to the Superintendent of Police of Ri Bhoi calling attention to the difficulties faced by the border residents.
HNYF assistant general secretary Edward Thangkhiew informed that villagers of Umwang, Umlaper, Sabuda, and other border areas have complained about the police’s negligence.
“Whenever there is a feud, the villagers approach the police department, however, the officials never file FIRs. They are only open to discussions,” the leader said, while adding that on visiting the police station there were just a couple of cops present.
Thangkhiew urged both the police authority and the government to intervene, emphasizing that when a person comes to file an FIR, the police should accept it and be accountable for addressing the disputes. He also urged the government to strengthen the police presence, especially in the border areas where conflicts arise frequently.
The SP assured of taking stock of the situation.
