HPC reacts to viral video; says residents acted in defense

Reacting to the video that went viral, showing a group of people from Harijan Colony coming out to the street, Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) secretary Gurjit Singh said that it was in defense that the people came out, and stated that he was not present at the spot to ascertain the details.

SHILLONG:

Harijan Panchayat Committee (HPC) secretary Gurjit Singh, on May 20, alleged that some miscreants pelted stones at the Harijan Colony after which the residents of the locality retaliated, and came out in defense.

Reacting to the video that went viral, showing a group of people from Harijan Colony coming out to the street, Singh said that it was in defense that the people came out, and stated that he was not present at the spot to ascertain the details.

Calling for peace among all the communities, the HPC secretary claimed that the residents did not come out with swords and other tools; however, people gathered at the roadside to defend themselves.

The HPC secretary also said that the police had called him today, but they did not reveal anything on the arrested persons, stating that it is a very sensitive issue.

It may be reminded that on May 19, five persons were arrested by the police from Guwahati, in connection with the assault on two local taxi drivers by miscreants, on May 18 night at Khyndailad.
