Hundreds march to protest against vaccination, lockdowns

“As free citizens of the state we demand from the government to immediately stop forcing public to wear masks, go for testing and also vaccination”

SHILLONG:

The Awakening India Movement (AIM) Meghalaya state unit on Saturday protested against lockdowns and forcible vaccination against the virus.

Hundreds of people from various parts of the state took part in a procession which started from Motphran and culminated in Khyndailad.

The protest rally saw the participation of men, women and children.

According to the organisers, the rally was against the forced lockdown, vaccination, mandatory wearing of masks and compulsory testing for Covid-19 and closure of schools.

They also said that the rally was against violation of human rights and dictatorial attitude of the government.

Banshai Marbaniang, chairman of the AIM, Meghalaya state unit while addressing the rally at Khyndailad said that the public are facing problems due to the pandemic “brought by the government”.

“Therefore, as free citizens of the state we demand from the government to immediately stop forcing public to wear masks, go for testing and also vaccination,” Marbaniang said.

He said that if the government does not listen to what the public are asking for the AIM will fight for people’s right to live freely.

He said that the government should not treat citizens like animals or slaves by forcing them to get vaccinated.

Despite the surging Covid-19 cases the rally-goers flouted the government protocols of wearing masks and maintaining social distancing.
