ILP possible if full-fledged BJP govt installed in state: Shullai

Shullai said, “Give us 31 MLAs (to form a) full-fledged BJP government, we will give you whatever you want,” in response to a query on the delay of the centre to implement the ILP and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

SHILLONG:

BJP leader and cabinet minister Sanbor Shullai, on December 15, said Meghalaya will get ILP only if a full-fledged BJP government is installed in the state.

Shullai said, “Give us 31 MLAs (to form a) full-fledged BJP government, we will give you whatever you want,” in response to a query on the delay of the centre to implement the ILP and inclusion of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution of India.

Endorsing his statement, BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said, “As Sanbor Shullai had said give us a chance to be in power, we will do the needful,” further informing he had taken up the language issue and the centre is still examining the matter.

The state BJP also welcomed three former MLAs Himalaya Shangpliang, Benedic R Marak and Ferlin CA Sangma, and sitting Independent MLA from Baghmara Samuel M Sangma at a meeting held at the party office.

Informing that two more sitting legislators have approached the party, Mawrie said the question of pulling out of the MDA government has been entrusted to the central leadership. “We are waiting for them to take the call as it is not in our hands.”

Furthermore, Mawrie informed, “We also had a meeting with the union home minister Amit Shah along with national president JP Nadda and national organizing secretary BL Santoshji to discuss strategy on how to strengthen the party and identify more winnability seats.”
