State to develop under BJP: Shangpliang

Shangpliang, on Dcember 15, said, “…the list is endless as there are a lot of things for us to do and this will be possible only through the help of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi because it is through his visions and dreams that we can convert Meghalaya under the banner of the BJP and that is why I joined the BJP."

SHILLONG:

Ex-legislator from Mawsynram Himalaya M Shangpliang who recently resigned as AITC MLA informed he has joined BJP to bring development in the state.

Shangpliang, on Dcember 15, said, “…the list is endless as there are a lot of things for us to do and this will be possible only through the help of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi because it is through his visions and dreams that we can convert Meghalaya under the banner of the BJP and that is why I joined the BJP.”

Stating that there is need to improve road connectivity, he said, “The PMGSY right now is not extended to most of the rural areas. We would like to see extensive development in the rural roads in the next five years.

He added that JJM needs to go in a larger scale to ensure every household get a water connection, further mentioning, “And we would also like to bring medical and engineering colleges, wherein the youth of the state will get the opportunities to study in these colleges instead of going outside the state. Getting seats in medical and engineering colleges has become a big pain and a big problem for our youth. If we have our own colleges it will be a lot beneficial for them. We would like to bring a lot of development for the rural areas as well wherein we would like to give rural housing for the poor.”

Shangpliang had quit the Congress and joined the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) along with 12 other MLAs led by Mukul Sangma.

On his decision to switch his allegiance again, Shangpliang said, “The Congress had undergone a lot of crisis in between. In 2020-2021, there was a crisis at the Centre level and at the state level. There were like minded friends who came out from the Congress and we joined the TMC at that point of time.”

“TMC eventually was not acceptable to the people in my constituency. I tried to convince my people but they say it is not a party where they would love to be in and they were the ones who suggested that I go to the BJP because the rural people in my constituency understand how much Modi has helped them during the Covid times. Till date the rice that Narendra Modiji had given is popularly known as “Khaw Modi”. That is so popular now. Therefore the people themselves have asked me to please go to the BJP and that is how I am here in the BJP today,” he added.

Stating that there is a lot of difference in the leadership of the BJP and the Congress, Shangpliang said, “The way in which Congress was functioning it was not possible even to meet central leaders of the Congress whenever we went to Delhi to meet them leave aside meeting Sonia Gandhi.
