Kumar was attacked by a mob on November 24 evening during a protest against Mukroh violence at IGP Point. His hearing aid and mobile were snatched by the mob.

GUWAHATI:

The health condition of Alok Kumar, inspector of customs and central excise, who was attacked by miscreants in Shillong on November 24, is now stable, official sources in Guwahati Neurological Research Centre (GNRC) said.

Kumar was undergoing training at the National Academy of Customs, Indirect Taxes and Narcotics (NACIN), Shillong.

He was attacked by a mob on November 24 evening during a protest against Mukroh violence at IGP Point. His hearing aid and mobile were snatched by the mob.

Initially, Kumar was admitted to Woodland Hospital in Shillong and kept in an ICU for the night. On the night of November 25, he was shifted to GNRC in Guwahati in critical condition.

“Alok Kumar is stable now. He was today shifted from ICU to semi-ICU,” said Neuro Surgeon Dr NJ Bora, who is attending him.

“He is a bit more stable than earlier and has been transferred to the semi-ICU ward. However, the neurologist attending him has said that he needs at least 5 more days in the semi-ICU ward. After that, the doctor can give a further update. The condition of his left eye is also critical, the doctor is keeping a watch on it too,” said Udayan Sengupta, general secretary, Shillong circle (Guwahati zone of All India Excise Inspector’s Association.

“Kumar has received serious injuries in his eye, forehead and face during the attack. It will take time for him to come to the normal state,” said L Lupheng, president, Shillong circle, AIEIA.

“Luckily he has not received any internal injury,” Lupheng said.

“We have also lodged an FIR with Shillong Sadar Police Station in connection with the incident. But no arrest has been made by the police till today,” he said.

“We also discuss the issue with the Central Government officers Association here. We will decide on the next course of action soon. Our officers got panicked to work here,” he added.
