It is AITC versus all other parties, claims Mukul Sangma

SHILLONG:

The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on July 23 said there were two political power centres in the state with itself being one and the rest of the parties the other while reiterating that the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government is a proxy Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government.

“It is AITC on one hand, and all the other parties on the other hand,” leader of the Opposition, Mukul Sangma said.

Addressing a membership drive at Umlaper in Ri Bhoi district, Sangma said that immediately after the 2018 elections, the BJP installed the current MDA government in the state.

“With regard to the areas of differences between Meghalaya and Assam, we had submitted a document in 2011 to claim back our rightful land. However, after the visit of the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the puppet MDA government simply obeyed their diktat like an obedient servant. This entire false narrative in Meghalaya is scripted by the BJP,” he said.

Sangma further slammed the MDA government for supporting the draconian Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) passed by the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government.

“When all the Northeastern states unitedly opposed the CAA, all parties which are part of the MDA government, supported it. We also witnessed one of the NPP MPs speaking in favour of the NRC in the Parliament. Meghalaya won’t forget or forgive this,” he said.

Honouring the indomitable fight of the SSA teachers, Sangma stated, “You have seen the agony that our SSA teachers had to go through. Many other workers like the ASHA workers and daily wage earners, are facing similar problems. Who is responsible?”

Expressing concern over the unemployment problem in the state, he said, “The MDA government in the last five years has not created any new jobs. Even the posts of primary school teachers are not filled in spite of MTET taking place. It is our children who are being deprived of a prosperous future.”

Meghalaya TMC MLA George B Lyngdoh further explained to the people of Mawhati the meaning of Trinamool Congress, the symbol, and the ethos of ‘Maa, Mati, Manush’.

Expressing heartfelt gratitude, he urged mothers, fathers, sons and daughters of Mawhati to strengthen the wings of the Meghalaya Trinamool Congress.

Meghalaya TMC said that it is determined to make a positive change in the state with regard to education, employment and statehood. Meghalaya TMC leadership also hinted at raising state level issues in the Parliament ahead of the monsoon session.
