IT Ministry to skill over 50,000 Meghalaya youths in next 12 months

"We are very closely involving industry and business in developing these skills. It will be high tech skills and entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunity," Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar informed.

Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on January 13, informed that over the next 12 months, his Ministry will be skilling over 50,000 youths of the state in industry-ready skills.

“We are very closely involving industry and business in developing these skills. It will be high tech skills and entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunity,” Chandrasekhar informed.

He said, by involving business and industry, the jobs that will come as a consequence of the skilling programmes will open up a large number of employment opportunities.

The Minister of State also informed that a new National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT) will be commissioned for the state in the next 18 months.

“This will also provide high-tech skills for Meghalaya-based entrepreneurs so that the youths of Meghalaya can join the start-up revolution,” Chandrashekhar said.
