SHILLONG:
For All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) it is quite “unbelievable” how Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and National People’s Party (NPP) can have an alliance and run a government in the state.
National general secretary of the Mamata Banerjee-led party, Abhishek Banerjee, who was in Shillong on June 29 to inaugurate the party’s state office, addressing party workers in a meeting, said, “Where five Congress MLAs, two BJP MLAs, and NPP MLAs, are in alliance to rule the state is unbelievable.”
Abhishek also added that Meghalaya is the only state in the country which “exposed the unholy nexus” between the BJP and Congress. “While Congress is supporting BJP, BJP is supporting Congress. What can be funnier than this that a party which talks about taking on the saffron party is supporting it in the state,” he said.
The AITC leader also expressed his gratitude towards the leader of opposition Mukul Sangma, state president Charles Pyngrope and 10 other MLAs for quitting the Congress and joining the AITC.
“They realised that if they are to take on the NPP’s might and BJP’s vigour, we need a platform and a party which has the courage to speak and take on the BJP head on,” he said.
