JSM evicts non tribal hawkers in Jowai

During the eviction drive, the JSM discovered that most of the hawkers were without trading licenses, labour licenses and temporary no object certificates (NOCs) from the headmen.

JOWAI:

The JaiƱtia Student Movement (JSM), Jowai Circle, on October 10, undertook an eviction drive against non-tribal roadside hawkers at Iew Musiang market, Iewmusiang, Iew Shyiap market and other places around Jowai.

The JSM conducted the eviction drive after receiving complaints that the roadside hawkers were creating inconvenience to the public by obstructing the footpaths, particularly at Iew Shyiap market and road leading to the office of the Deputy Commissioner at Jowai.

During the eviction drive, the organisation discovered that most of the hawkers were without trading licenses, labour licenses and temporary no object certificates (NOCs) from the headmen.

The JSM also warned that stern action would be taken against them if the hawkers are found again. The JSM has blamed the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC) for its lapses to check these unauthorised hawkers for creating inconveniences to the public.
