SHILLONG:
The street hawkers without legal trade licences were evicted on April 20 by members of the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Hima Mylliem in response to many complaints about the living conditions in Iewduh.
The eviction was conducted in the presence of Chief Executive Member (CEM) of KHADC Titosstarwell Chyne, Syiem of Hima Mylliem Paiem Ainam Manik Syiem, Executive Member in-charge of Trade Grace Mary Kharpuri, and police enforcements.
Due to the findings that many outsiders lacked sufficient documentation or even a trading licence, the KHADC has closed down a number of shops and evicted street vendors as they are taking up the prime walking area.
Speaking to reporters, Chyne stated that the KHADC had not been to the Iewduh in a number of years and added that they had gone to look into the area regarding the under construction Iew Die Lang.
