KJP School to close for a week as authorities discuss future plans 

Speaking to media persons, one of the teachers, Kular Khongjirem informed that the school managing committee will sit and deliberate on their future course of action in this one-week gap. 

SHILLONG:

A day after an inferno razed the 131-yr-old Khasi-Jaintia Presbyterian (KJP) Higher Secondary School to the ground, school authorities informed that classes will be suspended for a week till temporary arrangements can be made to accommodate the students.

Speaking to media persons, one of the teachers, Kular Khongjirem informed that the school managing committee will sit and deliberate on their future course of action in this one-week gap.

He also said that the half-yearly examination will be conducted as scheduled. The school authorities have also urged the students to have patience for at least one week and information on re-opening of school will be given at a later date.

In the early hours of Sunday, a devastating fire broke out at the 131-year-old KJP HS School, resulting in the complete destruction of the institution.

According to eyewitnesses who arrived at the scene, the boarders residing in the adjacent boarding house narrowly escaped the flames and were immediately shifted to Community Hall Mission Compound.

The boarders under the leadership of teachers, church elders held prayers and sung hymns and after the fire was put out by fire tenders, were escorted back to the hostel.
