Along with the rest of the world, Meghalaya Biodiversity Board (MBB) celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity with the Theme “From Agreement to Action: Build Back Biodiversity in Shillong on May 22.
International day for Biological Diversity is observed every year on May 22 to promote biodiversity conservation. Since the inception of Meghalaya Biodiversity Board in 2012, the state of Meghalaya has observed this day every year both in district and state Level.
Addressing a gathering, Chief Secretary DP Wahlang said MBB is the board that takes care of the future generation, ensuring we live together in tandem with nature.
He said that our efforts should not end at discussions and agreements; they should be translated into actions.
The chief Secretary also appreciated Daphrang Songthiang of Khwad Village under Mawkynrew Block for recognising the importance of conservation of biodiversity by surrendering his licensed gun which he had used for hunting and stated that this will inspire others also to do the same.
