KSU detects “illegal” settlement of immigrants at Umling

The union found that the “illegal” immigrants have been staying in the area for a few weeks without the knowledge of Umling Headman.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) 20th Mile Circle, on May 23 evening, conducted an inspection to detect illegal settlers at Umling in Ri Bhoi district after receiving information from the Dorbar Shnong Umling that many illegal immigrants have been illegally settling in the area.

The union found that the “illegal” immigrants have been staying in the area for a few weeks without the knowledge of Umling Headman.

KSU vice president of the circle Noble Star Lyngdoh said, the illegal settlers failed to possess any valid document to prove their citizenship and asked the house owner, who is reportedly a local, to cross-check the identity of the person or persons before renting their houses.

The union has demanded the illegal settlers to vacate the area by tonight.
