SHILLONG:
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) Mihngi circle has submitted a letter to Power Minister Abu Taher Mondal on power issues in New Shillong Township and adjoining areas.
The union suggested that the MeECL should adopt certain measures so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply, and that more stations and sub-stations should be installed for even and ample distribution of electricity to the consumers.
At present there is only one station located in NEIGRIHMS catering to a number of localities and villages from Lumkhyriem, Mawpat, Itshyrwat, Saitsiej, Mawlong, Lumkynring, Mawkasiang, Diengiong, Siejiong, Tynring, Mawpdang, Diengpasoh, Mynring and other villages bordering both the districts of Ri Bhoi and West Jaintia Hills districts.
At present, only one lineman has to attend to all the above areas and the frequent power cuts took time to be addressed as the lone lineman has to cover a vast area.
Furthermore, the union has requested the minister to deploy two or three more linemen to provide service to the region, as currently only one lineman is available to attend to all the areas and the frequent power cuts take time to be addressed.
The union has also appealed to the minister to upgrade the transformers installed in the region and the single-phase provision to three-phase, to tackle the low supply of current in different villages and localities.
