KSU seeks diaqualification of 10 non-indigenous candidates

The KSU has sought immediate disqualification of 10 candidates from the open category list and in their place, genuine and bona fide candidates should be included.

SHILLONG:

The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has shot off a letter to Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma in the alleged discrepancies in allotting medical seats to non-indigenous students through the state quota.

The KSU has sought immediate disqualification of 10 candidates from the open category list and in their place, genuine and bona fide candidates should be included.

“The union hopes that the government will take necessary steps so as to ensure that rightful candidates from the state are not deprived of their rights and candidates with dubious antecedents are penalised as per the law of the land,” the KSU said in their letter to the chief minister.

The union said that these 10 candidates did not submit relevant documents as per the directives of the Directorate of Health Services.

The students’ body also said that the absence of Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) as one of the submitted documents invites disqualification of such candidates.

The KSU also said that the birth certificates submitted by the candidates are devoid of a serial number and a court order should attract a thorough investigation as to how such documents are issued by the authorities concerned.

According to the union, they after a thorough investigation observed that there are certain candidates selected in the open category and its waiting list who submitted documents not eligible as per the criteria issued by the DHS.

“Also certain candidates in the list submitted Birth Certificates which are incomplete and dubious in nature. One of the conditions issued by the DHS is that a copy of the PRC is mandatory for all applicants. However many selected candidates from the Open Category did not submit the necessary document,” the KSU said.

The union pointed out that one Mehbub Hassan’s PRC was not submitted but instead a Provisional PRC was submitted which was issued on June 7 in Dadenggre and valid for only 12 months and the candidate was born in the year 2001 and his birth certificate was issued in 2019 which lacks a proper serial number and a court order to verify the same.

The second case pointed out by the KSU is that of one Monimul Ekram Mondal, who did not submit his Birth Certificate and his Provisional PRC was valid for only three months.

The KSU also pointed out that in the case of one Ayush Kumar, who submitted only a birth certificate from Bihar without a court order and a CBSE document from Rajasthan and a PRC from East Jaintia Hills.

In another instance one Md Mahmadul Islam submitted a birth certificate which was issued in 2012, which was registered in the year 2002 although the person was born in 2003 even as he submitted only a Provisional PRC, from West Garo Hills and valid for 12 months.

In the case of Atifa Zaman no birth certificate and PRC was submitted but only a Provisional PRC from West Garo Hills was submitted which is valid for only 12 months.

The KSU pointed out that in the case of one Chiranjit Kumar Paul, whose birth certificate was issued in 2008 whereas the individual was born in 2005. However, a court order was absent in the said certificate and he submitted only a Provisional PRC valid only for 12 months.

Another candidate, Deeya Choudhary, who was allotted a medical seat through the state quota in the open category only a PRC was submitted but with no birth certificate.

Another candidate, Angoor Zaman Hoque, submitted a birth certificate without a court order and serial number. He too submitted only a Provisional PRC from West Garo Hills valid for 12 months.

In the case of Abdul Kalam Golam Mahdi Alom, he submitted a birth certificate issued in 2014, 12 years after his birth and that too without a court order and a serial number. He submitted only a Provisional PRC issued on May 16 and is valid for only three months.

Meanwhile, one Habibur Rehman, a candidate who features in the waiting list of the open category submitted only a Provisional PRC valid for only 12 months  and his place of birth was not determined.
