SHILLONG:

The father-son duo of Ngaitlang Dhar and cabinet minister Dasakhiatbha Lamare have hit out at their opponents for alleging that money is being used to influence people to vote in favour of the latter in the ensuing assembly election.

Lamare lashed out at the members of the Voice of People Party (VPP) for their tirade against him for being a rich contestant.

“Even though the world may criticise me for helping the poor and the needy, my heart is satisfied that I can help them,” the cabinet minister said while handing over a garbage truck to the Smit village under Nongkrem constituency.

He said that the vehicle donated to the Smit dorbar shnong was bought by the money earned through the family’s hard work not by stealing from others.

He said that he could help many people who are sick because God has given them the opportunity to do so.

Hitting out at his opponents, Lamare said they discuss only about his wealth.

“They said that Dasakhiat is buying the voters. But tell me if we buy things we have to take them home. Do I carry these people to my home,” the cabinet minister said.

The National People’s Party candidate from Nongkrem also said that his opponents are teaching wrong things to the people of the constituency.

“They are telling people to take money given by candidates but not to vote for them. In fact they should ask them not to take the money if they intend not to vote for such candidates,” Lamare said.

Meanwhile, his father Dhar, who is the former MLA of Umroi, said that people would criticise anything and everything.

“If one is rich and does not help the poor they would criticise for not doing so and even if we help them we are blamed that we have ulterior motives,” he said.

Dhar said that his family helps the people all over the state and not only in Nongkrem constituency.

According to him, during the Covid-19 pandemic he and his family helped many households in Ri Bhoi, Jaintia Hills and East Khasi Hills districts.
