In a bid to foster peace among the border residents in Khanduli, a peace meeting was held between the deputy commissioners and superintendents of police of Hamren, West Karbi Anlong in Assam and West Jaintia Hills district in Meghalaya on May 16.
It may be mentioned that a clash broke out between two communities at Khanduli village in West Jaintia Hills district over restrictions to enter the Khanduli market last week. Khanduli residents have been opposing the setting up of a toll gate by officials of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma had earlier informed that he had been in constant touch with his Assam counterpart on issues concerning the border disputes and stated that joint visits to the sensitive zones will be made by chief ministers of both the states in a couple of weeks, before the month end.
