SHILLONG:
The prevalence of the lumpy skin disease has made individuals reluctant of consuming cattle and dairy products like milk from cows.
Speaking with the joint director of animal husbandry and veterinarian, HK Marak, however, gave the assurance that one can consume dairy and cattle products by properly boiling them and to stay away from smoked meat because the meat is only preserved by using smoke.
He claimed that in the entire state, 29 cows have perished and over 3500 have been infected with the disease.
He continued by saying they could only prevent it by immunising healthy animals because there is no effective treatment or cure. He further asked the ranchers to isolate the diseased animals, maintain the sheds clean at all times, use turmeric on the cattle to avoid infection, and to bury any dead cow six feet underground.
