Massive protest in Arunachal against atrocities by NSCN(K-YA)

11 cases of kidnappings for ransom have taken place in Tirap, Changlang, and Longding so far

Itanagar:

A mammoth gathering of over 5000 people comprising of the residents of the Longding and Kanubari towns in Arunachal Pradesh took part in a massive protest against the illegal taxation and abduction being carried out by NSCN K-YA in the region.

Holding placards and banners inscribed with ‘No Extortion’, ‘No Kidnapping’ and ‘No More Humiliation’, the angry youth and villagers shouted slogans against the atrocities of NSCN K-YA.
People’s Forum to express solidarity with them on the same.

Series of protest rallies are also lined up in Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) districts in the coming days. The protests were led by the Wancho Council. At least 30 villagers each from over 60 villages in TCL have taken part in the protest.

Notably, in the last couple of months, 11 cases of kidnappings for ransom have taken place in the TCL belt. Locals are also reportedly forced to pay ‘so-called house tax and other taxes.

Moreover, 2 persons from the Longding district are still in the captivity of NSCN (K-YA).
