MeECL Chairman assures no power shortage this festive season

Elaborating on the preparedness of the power department, Goyal emphasised, "As far as availability is concerned, there's no shortage."

SHILLONG:

In a bid to alleviate concerns over potential power shortages during the festive season, Sanjay Goyal, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of Meghalaya Energy Corporation Ltd (MeECL), announced on December 21 that comprehensive arrangements have been put in place to ensure a steady power supply throughout the state.

Addressing the media, Goyal highlighted the proactive measures taken by MeECL to anticipate and cater to the heightened energy demand during peak times. “We anticipate the average daily requirement to touch around 400 megawatts during this festive season, and arrangements have been made accordingly,” he stated.

Goyal emphasised the strategic approach adopted by MeECL, including agreements to source energy from external providers and utilising their own generation capacity, with a particular mention of the Umiam Lake reservoir level being at a comfortable level. “With the agreements in place and our own generation capabilities, we are confident that there will be no power shortage during this festive season,” he assured.

Elaborating on the preparedness of the power department, Goyal emphasised, “As far as availability is concerned, there’s no shortage. We’ve already worked out the requirements, even considering the average daily demand of roughly 300 megawatts. The power department is quite comfortable with the arrangements in place.”
