Meghalaya Games ’24 unveils official anthem “Here We Play”

Lyrically composed by Summersalt's Kit Shangpliang and NOKPANTE's Mikhael Marak, the anthem "weaves a motivational narrative echoing the values of hard work, discipline, and resilience".

SHILLONG/TURA:

Meghalaya Games 2024 is set for a dynamic start with the introduction of its official anthem, “Here We Play.”

Crafted collaboratively by Summersalt from Shillong and NOKPANTE from Tura, the anthem is a cultural blend of English, Khasi, Garo, and Pnar languages.

The anthem launch in Tura added anticipation to the upcoming Meghalaya Games scheduled from January 15 to January 20.

Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma stated, “The anthem ‘Here We Go’ embodies the values of unity, perseverance, and the indomitable Meghalayan spirit, inspiring athletes and creating lasting memories for all participants and spectators of the Meghalaya Games.”

Expressing the essence of the anthem, Sports Minister Shakliar Warjri highlighted its reflection of unity, passion, and determination. He emphasised the power of sports to bring people together.

Lyrically composed by Summersalt’s Kit Shangpliang and NOKPANTE’s Mikhael Marak, the anthem “weaves a motivational narrative echoing the values of hard work, discipline, and resilience”.

The orchestration by Augustine Kurbah incorporates indigenous musical elements, mirroring the heartbeat of Meghalaya.

Expressing gratitude, Shangpliang said, “Our partnership with NOKPANTE has been seamless, and we thank the District Administration for their trust.”

Marak added, “We’ve incorporated Garo and Khasi chants to inject indigeneity into what we’d like to believe is a big song.”

The anthem, “Here We Play,” is set to be a prominent feature throughout Meghalaya Games 2024, taking centre stage during the event and accompanying medal ceremonies.

In a nod to the state’s commitment to unity, diversity, and sporting talent, the anthem, according to the state government, resonates with victory chants such as ‘Hoikiw’ and ‘Ahowee.’
