Meghalaya is not being ruled from Meghalaya, but from New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi

Gandhi highlighted alleged scams in Meghalaya, mentioning an "illegal coal transport scam" and the "Assembly Dome collapse scam." He criticised the Home Minister for calling Meghalaya's government the most corrupt and then forming an alliance with it.

NONGPOH:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, addressing a public rally at the NSCA stadium in Pahamsyiem on Monday, expressed concern that Meghalaya is being governed from Delhi instead of being ruled within the state.

Gandhi said, “Meghalaya is not being ruled from Meghalaya, but from New Delhi and that is not acceptable to us.”

He criticised the BJP for aligning with the National People’s Party (NPP)-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government, despite earlier accusing it of being the most corrupt in the country.

Gandhi highlighted alleged scams in Meghalaya, mentioning an “illegal coal transport scam” and the “Assembly Dome collapse scam.” He criticised the Home Minister for calling Meghalaya’s government the most corrupt and then forming an alliance with it.

Regarding linguistic issues, Gandhi noted the absence of Khasi and Garo languages in the Eighth Schedule to the Constitution and emphasised the attack on traditions, history, and ways of life by the RSS. He stated, “Meghalaya is being ruled from Delhi. This is not acceptable to us.”

Claiming that Meghalaya is being ruled from Delhi, Gandhi stressed that this situation is unacceptable. He accused the RSS of strangling the Constitution and the institutional framework of India. Gandhi explained his ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra,’ undertaken to protect the idea of India from attacks by the RSS and BJP. He highlighted the impact of their ideologies on states like Manipur, expressing disappointment that the Prime Minister had not visited Manipur amid ongoing violence.

Gandhi affirmed his belief in the equal importance of all states within the Indian Union and emphasized the need for Meghalaya to be governed from Meghalaya. He iterated, “We respect your culture, tradition, languages. And we believe fundamentally that Meghalaya should be ruled from Meghalaya.”
