Meghalaya lacks computerised centre: Rymbui

Nongstoin:

Education Minister Lakhmen Rymbui on Tuesday expressed concern over the Centre’s recent announcement of Central University Entrance Test (CUET) as Meghalaya lacks computerised centre for exercising the newly introduced entrance test.

Speaking at the Golden Jubilee celebration of Thomas Jones 1 Secondary School, Pyndengrei in Nongstoin, Rymbui further said that the state has only one computerised centre in Shillong and it is difficult to implement the CUET because Jowai, Tura, Nongstoin and others districts do not have the said centre.

The minister informed that the state government has appealed to the central government to allow the old system, no response received yet.

“Earlier students who have completed the Class XII examination they can simply join the colleges they like according to their marks, but from now on students who want to pursue the universities have to sit for a university entrance test,” he added.

The minister further claimed that the state government is performing well despite several challenges especially for the educational sector.

He also urged the students to apply for the test through the website of the National Test Agency because clearing the test will help the students to apply their classes in every University in the whole country.

Meanwhile, Rymbui congratulated Thomas Jones 1 Secondary School for completing 50 years.

He also said that the school, which was run by 15 households with a vision to educate their children and the society, was established in the year 1972 and now has crossed the milestone of 50 years.

“The school managing committee has been facing lots of difficulties however I am happy to hear that the school has been moving forward with their aims and ambitions,” he said.

Macmillan Byrsat MLA Nongstoin attended the programme as the Guest of Honour. The function witnessed participation of students, teachers and the villagers who are the pioneers in supporting the school since 1972.

The programme was also attended by P.D Sangma Deputy Commissioner WKHD, L.G Nongsiej ex MDC Nongstoin, officer from the District School Education Officer among others.
