Migratory Himalayan vulture tries stealing meat from local stall in WJH

As per sources, despite being rarely seen in the past two decades, the scavengers have reportedly been in the area for the past two weeks.

JOWAI:

Over 38 Himalayan vultures were seen near a slaughter house at Lad Demthing, along the Jowai-Amlarem-Dawki road in West Jaiñtia Hills, on April 18.

According to a local meat vendor, “The vultures have come here because of a dead animal or availability of food near the slaughter house. Some even tried to steal meat from the stalls.”

As per sources, despite being rarely seen in the past two decades, the scavengers have reportedly been in the area for the past two weeks.

Notably, the vultures and the black crow, two well-known scavengers, used to visit Jaiñtia Hills and feast on the remains of deceased animals.
