Mizoram Guv meets church leaders to work on social security measures

Hari Babu Kambhampati interacted with leaders of Baptist Church of Mizoram.

AIZAWL:

Mizoram Governor, Hari Babu Kambhampati, on March 2, urged church leaders to proactively get involved in awareness campaigns on social security measures in the state.

“If the churches in Mizoram take on a more proactive role in awareness campaigns on social security schemes, more beneficiaries will enrol in the various ongoing schemes,” he said.

Expressing concern that the majority of the population in the state are still unaware of welfare schemes such as the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY) and the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojna (PMJJBY), the Governor sought everybody’s cooperation in the matter.

Kambhampati also interacted with leaders of the Baptist Church of Mizoram (BCM), the second largest denomination in the Christian-majority state, at the Raj Bhavan, in an effort to popularise and create awareness of various central welfare and social security schemes.

The church leaders assured the Governor of their “full cooperation” on any awareness drive that will benefit the people in the state, with a special focus on schemes to benefit the weaker section of the society.

Highlighting the important role played by the churches and local NGOs in maintaining communal harmony, healthcare and education, in the state, the Governor sought their cooperation in order to use the vast resources across the state to benefit maximum number of people.
