SHILLONG:
Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on March 13, said that the state government’s stand on Mukroh is very clear and that it lies well withing Meghalaya, and not in Assam as claimed by Assam.
Tynsong was reacting to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s statement in the Assembly, where Sarma had stated that Mukroh is within the boundary of Assam and is under the jurisdiction of West Karbi Anglong district.
“I don’t know why was such statement made by the Assam Chief Minister when we are in the process of stepping into the second phase of border talks. I personally feel he should not say that, and it is very unfortunate on his part to make such comments in Assembly, Tynsong told media persons in reaction to Sarma’s statement.
Asked as to when will the government reconstitute the Regional Committees to take forward the second phase of border talks, Tynsong said that the priority is to initiate the talks now. “We have already made it very clear to the people of the state that the second phase of talk will start very soon, so we will work it out accordingly,” Tynsong said.
Speaking about his recent visit to Delhi and what importance it holds for the MDA 2.0 government, Tynsong said that the delegation met Finance Minister who assured all support to the new government.
