Mukul predicts surprises ahead of polls

SHILLONG:

In the run-up to the 2023 elections, opposition leader Mukul Sangma claimed that that there may be some surprises in store for everyone.

“There is no denial that few people are into adventurism. Have I not told you last year that not only from All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), but even from other parties there will be few adventurisms and there will be some element of surprises as we come closer to the election?” said the Songsak legislator, on Wednesday.

Mukul was responding to a query on AITC legislator from Mawsynram, Himalaya M Shangpliang’s decision to join Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the 2023 assembly elections.

After the approaching Autumn Session of the parliament, he claimed, the state would witness numerous new developments from the National People’s Party (NPP), United Democratic Party (UDP), and other political parties.

Mukul, however, said as far as the AITC is concerned, the party is not only looking to welcome the sitting MLAs.

“We have taken pride in telling our friends that AITC is providing a platform for people who share our intent of serving the people with utmost commitment and dedication.  We welcomethose who would like to see this particular political platform be really utilised for the purpose of embarking upon a new journey in starting their innings as politicians or as members in active politics to serve the people and build this beautiful state,” he said.

Mukul hits back at Prestone

Mukul also hit back at deputy chief minister PrestoneTynsong for “day dreaming” that AITC legislators should join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of 2023 assembly polls for their survival.

“I must tell, he (Prestone) can enjoy his day-dreaming exercise as long as he wants. You know who Tynsong is a d so do I. He can continue daydreaming and speak whatever he likes with or without responsibility,” Sangma said.

He was reacting to a recent statement made by Tynsong when the Deputy Chief Minister had asked all the opposition AITC legislators to join the BJP pre-elections.

The former chief minister however said that Tynsong and the NPP doesn’t have to accept the AITC but he should know what exactly is happening. “Does he (Tynsong) think everybody is accepting NPP?” he asked.

Stating that he had the privilege of getting so many inputs on the ground, Mukul said, “People who desire to be with NPP and be their projected candidates, they are having tough times to retain their own people. This is what is happening on the ground. You can do your own research and then corroborate with your fact finding,” said the leader of opposition.
