Confirming it to be Eskuf, a banned analgesic, the police said that on the morning of Saturday, while unloading goods from the parcel bogie, the cache was seized.

AGARTALA:

The Tripura police seized a huge cache of analgesic worth over Rs 1 lakh from a train at Agartala Railway Station, on April 30.

Confirming it to be Eskuf, a banned analgesic, the police said that on the morning of Saturday, while unloading goods from the parcel bogie, the cache was seized. The police informed that no arrests have been made in connection with the seizure so far.

“We have received information that an Agartala-bound train coming from Assam’s Silchar is carrying a huge consignment of contraband items in its parcel bogie. Accordingly, Tripura Police and its anti-narcotics team along with Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the station and seized the contraband,” said Amtali Sub-divisional Police officer (SDPO) Asish Dasgupta.

Dasgupta further informed that the police is investigating the matter and search operation is on to find more such consignments in and around the capital. “So far, we have seized more than 54 cartoons in which more than 30,000 bottles of the cough syrup was kept. Each cartoon had around 320 bottles,” the SDPO said, adding that a case has also been registered in connection with the seizure.

“The approximate price would be more than lakh. And since nobody was found with these contraband items, we are investigating the matter”, the police official said.
