National Exhibition & Seminar on Plasma Physics at USTM concludes

James PK Sangma, who was the chief guest at the event, also inaugurated the new Salim Ali Museum of Biological Diversity at I-Block of USTM.

The five day long National Exhibition and Seminar on Plasma Physics organised by the Department of Physics at the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) in Ri Bhoi, came to an end on August 5.

Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, James PK Sangma, who was the chief guest of the event, joined the valedictory session on Friday with SG Esmatur Mominin, MLA for the Phulbari constituency in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly. Sangma also inaugurated the new Salim Ali Museum of Biological Diversity at I-Block of USTM.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. AV Ravi Kumar from Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) Gujarat said, “Plasma is a new subject to most students and in spite of the fact that it has tremendous applications, it is a subject that is not taught in the schools or colleges. This exhibition is aimed at introducing the topic to students and teachers, and also show them its applications and opportunities to pursue a career in this field.”

He also said that more than 20 exhibits were transported across the country from Gujarat so that the students of Assam and Meghalaya could benefit from it.

More than 1000 students coming from 50 different schools and colleges of the region participated under the guidance of scientists from Centre of Plasma Physics – Institute for Plasma Research (CPP-IPR), Department of Atomic Energy, government of India.
