National Law University to begin classes from July 10

Since the university has just started, Banerjee said such outreach programmes will also be held across the state to attract applications from aspiring lawyers of the state.

Sanjib Banerjee, Chief Justice, Meghalaya High Court said on Thursday that the academic session of the National Law University (NLU) will commence in July this year while students’ online applications which started on April 21 will end on May 21. The admission test is slated for May 28. The merit list will be published on June 9 and classes will begin from July 10.

He was speaking at an outreach programme conducted by the state Education department in collaboration with National Law University, Meghalaya at Yojana Bhavan, Main Secretariat Building, here.

The programme involved principals, teachers, and students of higher secondary schools from East Khasi Hills and adjoining districts.

Apart from Banerjee, who was the chief guest, the programme was also graced by high court judges Justice HS Thangkhiew and Justice W Diengdoh as special guests.

Banerjee also informed that for undergraduate courses, a total of 60 students will be enrolled with 20 each in BA LLB, BBA LLB, and BS LLB honours and there will be 10 postgraduate students. He mentioned that the annual fee structure for the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes is much lower than what private colleges and universities and other national universities charge.

Since the university has just started, Banerjee said such outreach programmes will also be held across the state to attract applications from aspiring lawyers of the state.

Others who were present included Pravin Bakshi, Commissioner & Secretary, Education, CVD Diengdoh, Secretary, Law & Legal Remembrancer & Parliamentary Affairs among others.
