Trifed Ministry organises Tribal Artisans Mela

The event aimed to promote and preserve traditional farming practices in the region. Artisans and producers who participated in the event displayed their traditional crafts to the world.

NONGPH:

The Trifed Ministry of Tribal Affairs organised a two-day Tribal Artisans Mela, in collaboration with the Meghalaya Basin Development Unit in Ri Bhoi district, at the District Library Hall to showcase traditional farming and handmade weaving from the region.

The event aimed to promote and preserve traditional farming practices in the region. Artisans and producers who participated in the event displayed their traditional crafts to the world.

Om Prakash, Deputy Manager of Trifed Ministry stated the event was an opportunity for artisans and producers to showcase their products outside the state. It may be mentioned that Trifed would select a few producers and help them in selling their products outside the state. However, those who do not get selected would receive training to improve their farming practices.

The event was attended by cloth traditional weavers and artisans, as well as Om Prakash, Deputy Manager of Trifed Ministry of Tribal Affairs; Ekbal Husain, Senior Program Executive of Trifed Regional Office North East & NHHDC; Marlamkupar Kharmudai, District Project Manager of MBDU, along with staff from MBDU.
