SHILLONG:

National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks are set to make their debut in state schools.

Informing of the government’s decision, on Monday, Education minister Rakkam A Sangma said he had recently met the chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in New Delhi.

The meeting was also attended by the adviser to the education department Himalaya Shangpliang and officials from the DERT.

He said that the state has requested the CBSE to assist the education department to introduce the NCERT textbooks in schools across the state.

“The CBSE authority has promised that they will provide training to our teachers. We will be sending some teachers to Delhi for training and they will also be coming to the state to give training and to assist the education department (in this regard),” Sangma said.

The education minister also informed that the issue related to the CUET was also taken up with the Union minister for human resource development and said that CUET centers will be set up in Shillong, Tura and Jowai before the next examination.

“Many of our students have been allotted centres this year in different states of the country. After the intervention of CM, many have been rescheduled and of course for some left out students, those will also be rescheduled. We discussed that from the next CUET exams, we will have centers in Shillong, Tura and Jowai,” he added.
