The new schedule for National Games in Meghalaya is yet to be decided, informed John F Kharshiing, Working President, Meghalaya Olympic Association (MSOA) to The Meghalayan on Sunday evening.
Kharshiing said that a meeting between the three signatories – the Indian Olympic Association, Government of Meghalaya and Meghalaya State Olympic Association will have to be held to decide on the new timeline for the 39th National Games in Meghalaya.
“The Government of Meghalaya and MSOA is waiting for the completion of the election process of the IOA which was stayed by the Hon’ble Delhi High Court and expected to be resolved soon so that the matter can be taken up with the new leadership of Indian Olympic Association,” said Kharshiing.
Moreover, the MSOA President revealed the names of thirty-six sports disciplines to be part of the National Games in Meghalaya, which are Archery, Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Billiards and Snooker, Boxing, Canoeing and Kayaking, Cycling, Equestrian, Fencing, Football, Golf, Gymnastics, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Kabaddi, Karate, Kho Kho, Lawnbowis, Modern Pentathlon, Netball, Rowing, Rugby, Sailing, Shooting, Squash, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu.
Other sports included in the Sports Programme of Summer Olympic Games and Asian Games including sport climbing, baseball, softball and more, could be considered later based on the membership of NSFs. However, the decision shall be made in a discussion between National Games Organising Committee and Indian Olympic Association.
