Niti Aayog hails Meghalaya for using Ayush to combat Covid-19

New Delhi:

Niti Aayog has hailed the Meghalaya government for widely distributing prophylactic Ayush medicines and utilizing Ayush human resources to fight Covid-19.

A compendium prepared by Niti Aayog has said that the Meghalaya government has taken several initiatives for the safeguard of the public during the pandemic.

According to the compendium, Ayush staff were assigned various duties like screening of travellers coming from other states. The Ayush human resources in Meghalaya were also assigned with supervision of sample collection and Covid-19 testing for high-risk contacts and random testing, besides contact tracing of high-risk cases.

“They were also assigned to follow-up Covid-19 positive patients, training imparted by them on BCC (Behaviour Change Communication) at the block, community and village levels, training of health workers (Supervisor, ANM, Vaccinator, ASHA) on Covid-19 vaccination and supervision of Covid-19 vaccination drive at Covid vaccination centres,” the compendium prepared by Niti Aayog stated.

It also highlighted the state government’s initiative in distributing Ayush prophylactic medicines as a preventive measure. “Ayush OPDs are being utilised for Covid care. The state has widely disseminated advisory and self-care guidelines for the general public,” the Niti Aayog said.

The compendium released by NITI on Saturday also highlighted detailed information about various Ayush-based initiatives and practices adopted by the States and Union territories across the country for containing and managing the Covid-19 outbreak.

This compendium provides comprehensive details on the various practices and activities along with innovations undertaken by States and UTs for the mitigation of the Covid-19 outbreak using Ayush interventions and resources.

“There is a need to revisit the State policies to further strengthen the traditional healthcare systems in the country. In view of the rising demand for Ayush modalities and therapeutics, the limitations of statutory regulations towards Ayush systems need to be relooked,” Niti Aayog said.
