SHILLONG:
Chief Executive Member (CEM) Titosstarwell Chyne, on March 23, sought information from the government after reports surfaced that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has issued a no objection certificate (NOC) for the construction of a railway line from Tetelia to Byrnihat.
Chyne said there was no evidence of an NOC being provided by the district council in any year, stating, “I have checked all the records here in the office.”
He informed that there is only a request from the state government, made on December 14, 2016, querying on the status of the NOC for the Tetelia – Byrnihat – Shillong new railway line, which is a new project, while the old project is only from Tetelia to Byrnihat.
Despite some 39 correspondences from the state government to the KHADC, the district council is yet to issue any NOC.
Regarding the last action of the council on this matter, he said, the Syiem of Myliem, Syiem of Jirang and headmen concerned had resolved not to issue any NOC with regard to the railway line.
“Till today we stand by that,” he added.
