It was also revealed that AMD has established 23,268 tonnes uranium oxide in the state of Meghalaya.

SHILLONG:

A reply to an RTI application filed by Disparsing Rani has said that uranium activities in the state have been discontinued since 2018.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, he said he had filed an application in the office of the Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), Hyderabad.

He said as per the reply there are presently no such activities. It also revealed that exploration for uranium by AMD in Meghalaya commenced during 1955-56 and continued up to July 2018.

Rani said that the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) issued a no objection certificate in 2012.

It was also revealed that AMD has established 23,268 tonnes uranium oxide in the state of Meghalaya.

The Atomic Minerals Directorate for Exploration and Research (AMD), a constituent unit of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) has established uranium deposits in Domiasiat, Wahkyn-Wahkut, Gomaghat-Phlangdiloin, Tyrnai, Lostoin and Umthongkut in South West Khasi Hills district.
