Nongpoh Sports Association inaugurates football tournament

The opening match was played between Ri Bhoi United FC and Umden Sports Association.

NONGPOH:

The Nongpoh Sports Association (NSA) kick-started the Invitation Football Tournament 2022 at NSCA Mini Stadium Pahamsyiem on October 4.

The inaugural ceremony of the tournament was attended by Bobby Nongbet, district sports officer of Ri Bhoi District, who was also the chief guest, president of Ri Bhoi Youth Federation, Bipul Thangkhiew, who was the guest of honour, president of NSA, Lambok Joseph Rymbai, the headman of Pahamsyiem, and others.

Addressing the gathering, Nongbet said, “This tournament will be unique as only the best teams of Meghalaya have been invited to participate. The youths of the state will get a chance to learn how to play by watching the players.”

Nongbet also lauded the NSA for its efforts in bringing about the tournament so the youths of Nongpoh and the district can benefit from it.

The tournament will have 16 teams from all over Meghalaya participating, and the winner of the tournament will get a monetary prize of Rs 1 lakh while the runner-up will get Rs 50 thousand.

The opening match was played between Ri Bhoi United FC and Umden Sports Association, and though both sides played well, it ended in a draw. The referees decided on a tie breaker and Ri Bhoi United FC won against Umden Sports Association by 6-5.
