SHILLONG:
Chief Minister and national president of the National People’s Party (NPP) Conrad K Sangma said that his party will do well in the Manipur assembly elections.
According to Sangma, it is difficult to assess right now what is going to happen. “…but as I said I stick to my stand that we the NPP strongly feel that we will definitely increase our numbers in this coming election,” he said.
It may be mentioned that polling for the first phase of the assembly election in Manipur ended on Monday. Thirty-eight of the state’s 60 seats voted in the first phase.
In 2017, the NPP contested only nine seats in which it won four seats and emerged as kingmaker. Without NPP’s support, the BJP would not have been able to form a coalition government.
The party has fielded 42 candidates this time.
