NPP’s performance improved manifold in Manipur: Conrad Sangma

The party’s national president also expressed confidence that the party’s candidates will uphold the trust that the people of the state have bestowed upon them.

SHILLONG:

With the National People’s Party (NPP) bagging seven seats in the 12th Manipur Assembly polls, the party has emerged as the second single largest party in the state.

Thanking the people for their support, NPP national president Conrad K Sangma expressed confidence that the party’s candidates will uphold the trust that the people of the state have bestowed upon them.

“The NPP accept the people’s mandate with utmost humility… We are confident that our newly elected MLAs will affirm their commitment to the welfare of the people,” he said, taking to a popular micro-blogging website, after the results were declared, on March 10.

The NPP, in 2017, had four legislators in the state and was part of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led coalition government along with the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and Trinamool Congress.

Sangma also expressed happiness that the performance of the party in Manipur has increased manifold since the elections five years ago. “We are delighted that our vote share has further increased indicating that electorates have shown trust in the NPP ideology to protect the political-socio-economic interest of the NE States (sic),” the chief minister of Meghalaya, further said.He also thanked the party workers in the state saying, “We thank our party workers, including our women wing & youth wing who have tirelessly campaigned for the success of the NPP (sic).”

Similarly, congratulating the party’s winning candidates, cabinet minister James Sangma said, “I wish them the best as they continue working towards the aspirations of the people of Manipur & contribute to the state’s growth & welfare. The ideology of our Party is to work for the development of the people of North-East & we shall continue doing so with utmost dedication and sincerity (sic).”
