One held for issuing fake Covid test reports in Dimapur

Informing about the accused’s modus operandi, the police said that Samung used to issue the fake reports from testing centre staff stationed at Lahorijan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam

DIMAPUR:

The Dimapur police arrested one person for issuing fake Covid-19 test reports to passengers travelling from Blue Hill Bus station area to Manipur, on February 4.

Identified as Mohammad Samung (39), he works for IMA Travels (Dimapur to Imphal), the police revealed.

Dimapur DCP (Crime) and PRO, in a release, stated that the department had received information on issuance of fake Covid test reports on January 22, and subsequently started the investigation.

After getting a tip-off, a police team was sent disguised as passengers in need of a negative Covid test report to the area and Samung offered to arrange it on payment of Rs 500. He arranged two fake test reports within an hour and was arrested red-handed thereafter. A case was registered under the Disaster Management Act 2005, the police informed.

Informing about the accused’s modus operandi, the police said that Samung used to issue the fake reports from testing centre staff stationed at Lahorijan in Karbi Anglong district of Assam after collecting Aadhar cards and money from passengers. Police said further investigation into the matter is on and soon, they will be able to nab all the people involved.
