Shillong, Feb 22: Opposition Congress legislator from Umsning Dr Celestine Lyngdoh on Thursday asked the state government to request the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal to allot departments like radiology for specialised studies for in-service doctors from Meghalaya.
Taking a cue from the health minister Ampareen Lyngdoh’s reply that the Bhaitbari CHC is not equipped with any imaging facilities due to non-availability of trained doctors to operate and handle the equipment, Celestine said that the different States of the North East region are utilizing the RIMS, Imphal for specialised studies. However, the institute sometimes allot departments, which are not required by Meghalaya.
“Therefore, can the department of health make a request to the Director of RIMS, Imphal to allot specific departments where we require specialists urgently like radiology so that we can send our inservice doctors (for specialised studies),” he said.
The health minister assured to examine the suggestion.
Ampareen also said that the government is committed to have X-ray and USG for Bhaitbari CHC within the end of 2024. She also informed that doctors are being trained with the help of the Government of Tamil Nadu for doing ultrasound sonography.
