SHILLONG:
At least 22 pigs died of African Swine Fever (ASF) in Tiehsaw village of Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills.
Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Officer Dr. P. Sohlang stated that according to reports, 22 pigs had died as a result of the illness.
According to Sohlang, the 22 pigs are all owned by the same person, and the department had requested him to take care of his livestock after sending a notification to that regard.
He said that there is no treatment or cure for the illness, and the only way to prevent it is to take precautions like forbidding people from entering the pigsty and preventing those who are afflicted from mixing with others.
In order to prevent the spread of the disease, the Deputy Commissioner of WKHD clamped Sec 144 CrPC in the district.
