Over Rs 1 crore assets of cattle smuggler attached in Dhubri

The total value of the property and assets amounted to Rs 1,02,01,202, and the seizure was done under the provisions of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act 2021.

GUWAHATI:

The police in Assam’s Dhubri district, on July 25, attached the movable and immovable property of one Samsul Hoque alias Gabbar Singh which is worth over Rs 1 crore, making it the third such case of seizure of property and assets of a cattle smuggler.

“The process of property attachment of Samsul Hoque alias Gabbar Singh officially completed today. The attachment has been done as per the provisions of Assam Cattle Preservation Act 2021. His attached property includes land at five places and two bank accounts,” Dhubri superintendent of police, Abhijit Gurav, said.

The total value of the property and assets amounted to Rs 1,02,01,202, and the seizure was done under the provisions of the Act, which empowers police to enter the house of an accused person and inspect, search, and seize properties acquired in the last six years with funds reportedly earned from the illegal cattle trade.

Hoque had been arrested by the Dhubri Police on July 2, and he was wanted in several cases related to the smuggling of cattle from India to Bangladesh by crossing the fenced International Border.

“He has been running this illegal business for a long time, using porter’s in different locations of Dhubri district. He has raised his property and assets through anti-social activities within last six years,” Gurav added.

This was the third instance of seizure of property and assets of a cattle smuggler.

Earlier, the property and asset of cattle smuggler Abu Taher Md Nazrul Islam Sheikh, which was worth Rs 65,68,359.67, was attached on June 10.
