Guwahati:
Fisheries Minister of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya, on July 7, inaugurated the Saraighat Wholesale Fish Market which has been set up jointly by Assam and Saraighat Agricultural Society in Lokhra, Guwahati.
The market will facilitate the direct selling of different kinds of fish by fish farmers to retail outlets across Guwahati.
Speaking at the occasion, Parimal Suklabaidya thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the flagship ‘Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana’ which has benefitted fish farmers across India including Assam.
He said the state has witnessed a revolutionary increase in fish production after the arrival of BJP led government in Assam. Minister also expressed his vision of a full-fledged introduction of local fishes across the markets of Assam to push the state towards a healthy fish consumption state and contribute to the good health of everyone.
He also pitched the need and importance of adopting scientific ways and hygienic approaches in fish farming.
The ceremonial event also witnessed the inauguration of a Live Fish Tank & Weighing Machine at the campus of this Fish Market.
The event was attended by Sushila Hazarika, Chairperson, FISHED; Dilu Sarma, VC, FISHED; Mrigen Sarania, Mayor, Guwahati Municipal Corporation; Dr Dhruba Sarma, MD, FISHED among others.
